While we’re not going to see BlackBerry 10 smartphones until the Fall, developers attending the BlackBerry World conference will get a sneak peak at what the next generation platform will look like on phones. Research In Motion will be seeding out “prototype” devices to app makers who attend the show.
On its developer blog, RIM says those developers attending the BlackBerry Jam 10 meeting at the show will get the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha. Thi sis only meant for developers and won’t be what consumers can expect.
This is not a BlackBerry 10 smartphone it is a prototype running a modified version of the PlayBook OS which will help developers design their apps for the BlackBerry 10 smartphone form factor. Just to be 100% clear it’s not the final hardware or OS for BlackBerry 10 it’s a device to help developers get started with designing for what’s coming.
It will be exciting to see how this OS runs on a traditional BlackBerry handset but it still feels like a Fall release is very, very late. The IntoMobile team will be in Orlando for fun, so hopefully we’ll get our hands on one.
