iPad mini launch this year less than $300

We’ve been hearing about an iPad mini for quite some time now. Just like the little engine that could, this one will not quit. Another iPad mini buzz has broken out, this time from Chinese net portal, NetEase, who is reporting that according to multiple Taiwan media reports, the iPad Mini supply chain has been finalized with plans to launch 6 million units this year.

As we have reported in the past, this little brother to the iPad is expected to retail between $250 and $300. Reports say that this device is being positioned as a “counter attack” to Windows 8 tablets that are expected to hit store shelves later this year. As far as manufacturers, Pegatron will join Apple’s standby, Foxconn, to churn out those 6 million units needed in time for the launch.

The smaller iPad is allegedly slated to sport a 7.85-inch screen with a 1024 x 768 resolution. If those reports are accurate, apps that were written for the original iPad and the iPad 2 should seamlessly run on the iPad mini.
