HTC One X marks a fresh line up devices for HTC

One of a trio of "HTC One" phones, the HTC One X marks a fresh line-up devices for HTC. and this time the names don't sound like a brand of condoms.

This is a quad-core smartphone, based around a 1.5GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. This means that the HTC One X should be fast, although quite how fast remains to be seen. Four cores doesn't mean four times the speed, but it should give a boost of 50% or more.

On the outside, the HTC One X has a large 4.7" 720 x 1280 pixel HD display which some people might find a little too large for a smartphone. There's 8 megapixel primary camera with 1080p HD video recording plus a 1.3 megapixel one on the front for video calls. HTC have built some clever trickery into the One X including a dedicated imaging chip and the ability to take a stills photos while recording video.

Inside is 32GB of non expandable flash memory, 3.5G and WiFi support, Bluetooth and USB connectivity plus NFC and GPS. The multimedia player is enhanced with Beats Audio technology. There's a large 1800 mAh battery, and despite the fairly big 134 x 70 x 8.9mm size the One X weighs only 130 grams. It doesn't hurt that this is quite a good looking handset as well.

This is an Android 4.0 smartphone with HTC Sense 4 and therefore it can do all those things that other Android phones can do. Except faster. And probably more expensively too. HTC say that the One X should be available from Q2 2012, although no guidance was given on price, our guess is that will retail for €600 or more at launch.
